little theatres: homage to the mineral of cabbage
overview
Also known as Teatriños : Homenaxe ao mineral do repolo. This is my first independent short film, and was based on the poem “Homage to the Mineral of Cabbage” (in Galician, Homenaxe ao mineral do repolo) by ErÃn Moure. The film played at many film festivals worldwide, including TIFF, Annecy Animation Festival, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, DOK Leipzig, KROK, Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF), Animafest Zagreb, Etiuda & Anima, and the Zebra Poetry Film Festival in Berlin. It seemed to be appreciated the most in countries whose cultures share a love of cabbage.
William Blake challenged us to see the world in a grain of sand. Animator Stephanie Dudley cinematically compels us to do the same — but with a head of cabbage. Charmingly handcrafted images connect us with aspects of our immediate surroundings that are easily overlooked. Based on a poem by Erin Moure, Little Theatres reveals a magical reality layer by layer.

This is Little Theatres, a jaw-droppingly good stop-motion short directed and animated by Stephanie Dudley. It’s based on a poem in Galician, the language of northwest Spain, by the Canadian poet ErÃn Moure, from her book, Little Theatres (Teatriños).

Little Theatres was produced with assistance from Bravo!FACT and the NFB.
